Hi folks. I have just

Hi folks. I have just downloaded your The Landing at Anzac 1915 by Charles Dixon to compare it with a photograph I took of a very beat up photo of a painting showing the Anzac Landing that had bad water stain and scratch damage but identical to the one you have with two exceptions. The first is my version is definitely b&w and has a signiature in the same place. I cannot make it out but I do not think it is the same as the one on your painting. I have also taken the liberty of looking at the other painting you have shown, the "building of the battleship New Zealand"and Charles Dixon's signiature is clearly visible, but it is not the same as the one visible on the Anzac Landing painting. My version has an explanation written in longhand underneath it and it says, [and this is what got me curious and how I ended up on your website]that the original painting was done by Charles Devon S. J. {I think} and perhaps this Charles Devon may have been a priest but the signiature on my version I cannot make out and it is certainly not as clear as the battleship New Zealand version and as far as I can make out has not been written in the same way. Curiosity has always been my weak point and I have a question. Is it possible the two paintings in your collection are by different artists? If you would like me to send you a jpeg of the version I have I would be happy to send it via email and you can have fun with that perhaps. The rest of the blurb underneath my version says the painting was presented to the Australian Commonwealth Government by Austin Taylor, Esq; London from an original picture made by Charles Devon[?] now in the National Art Gallery of Sydney. I havent checked this out yet to see if this is factual but the hand writing under this copy is in flowing longhand script and looks very twenties to me. I have spent some time reconstructing this photoprint since the photo I photographed showed the original was badly water stained and had also lost paint flecks [was the original in colour?]as well and it represented a challenge for digital restoration and to see what appears to be a pristine version in glorious colour unfaded by time was a revelation to me and my pixelated eyes. Anyway, let me know if you would like me to send you this jpeg of mine and it would be nice to know if those two Charles Dixon signiatures on those two paintings in your possession are by the same hand. And who knows, there might even be three artists involved with this painting!
Cheers
